B.L.A.T.

The world famous Bacon Lettuce Avocado Tomato sandwich makes its comeback.

Ingredients:

  • 6 strips of bacon
  • 3 pieces of lettuce
  • 2 tomato slices
  • 1 Avocado
  • 2 pieces of your favorite bread
  • Mayonnaise

The Setup

The first step to a great BLT with avocado (BLAT from here on out) is the toast. Most people forget that simple bread won’t hold together with all the ingredients inside. My toaster oven takes a little while to heat up so my first step is to warm up the toaster and put the bread inside. Your first step is probably to pull out your frying pan and turn on your stove. The secret about the bread is to have it finish toasting right as you’re finishing preparing everything, allowing you to quickly put together a toasty sandwich with ease.

The Process

The secret about making a BLAT is to have all the steps going at once, multi-tasking in the real world. Once you get your bacon frying, pull the other ingredients (lettuce, tomato, avocado, mayo) out of the fridge and get going with that part. Wash and slice your tomato and lettuce and set them aside for when your toast will be ready. At this point, you should have flipped your bacon over and the bread should be about 1/2 toasted. Take your avocado and (depending on how you like your avocado) slice it lengthwise into neat sections using a bowl to lay them out, ready to slide onto the toast; or mash it up in the bowl (adding salt and pepper as needed) as a spread.

The Final Act

Your toast pops up, a golden, light-brown and you’re ready to go! Take both pieces of bread and lightly spread the mayonnaise, careful to not have too little or too much. Then set one slice down and add your avocado slices (or spread) by lightly sliding them out of their spot and onto the toast. Cover the avocado in lettuce and top it off with a few tomato slices. Then grab a fork and move your sizzling bacon on top. Cover the whole thing with your other piece of bread, grab your sandwich with two hands and enjoy!
